Donald Campbell set 7 World Water Speed records in total and 4 of these were on Coniston Water where he met his death whilst attempting to raise his own record to over 300mph. For 34 years the crash site was treated as his grave but, in 2001, the remains of Bluebird and Donald Campbell were recovered. At his daughter's request he was buried in the local cemetery.
