Steam ploughing works by having the two steam ploughing engines at each end of the field being plough taking turns to pull the plough using a cable attached to each end of the plough. While one engine is pulling on its cable, the other lets out its cable, with the roles reversing when the plough reaches the end its run. Here is a demonstration at the Great Dorset Steam Fair 2014, with the plough having reached the top of its run and in the process of being turned for its return to be pulled by the left hand on the ploughing engines visible at the foot of the slope. In the background can be seen the expanse of the whole event, including associated camping facilities.
