Branch Road because it was a branch off the Leeds to Halifax turnpike road, in the distance. However it is much older than that, as it continues as an unsurfaced lane (a public footpath) to Oakenshaw, which was in the same manor as Scholes in the 13C. Taken from SE168261 looking north
