This section of the towpath is laid with precast concrete slabs, claiming to cover an electrical cable carrying 30,000 volts. It may be true, given the nearby presence of the electrical substation just beyond the distant bridge. True or otherwise, I wasn't going to lift one to check. What's more, they rattle in a most disconcerting fashion as you ride over them, which causes a constant niggle in the mind "Will one collapse, trap my front wheel in the trunking, and pitch me over the bars?"
