The gate piers date from 1822 and are Grade II listed http://list.english-heritage.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1381037 . The text of the listing says that "The walls to either side have been so far altered, following damage by the hurricane of October 1987, as to be no longer of architectural or historic interest; the gates, of late C19 or early C20 date, have been inserted from elsewhere. The figures of a lion and a lioness on the gate piers, mentioned in the previous list description, were removed in 1987." - and (presumably) replaced by copies - see Image
