This was the northern road linkspan that connected with the vehicle deck of the old Finnieston Car Ferry (retired in 1962), which took carts and cars across the River Clyde to the opposite bank where an identical contraption allowed the unloading/loading. In addition to the ramp adjusting for tital variations, so too did the entire deck of the ferry, to keep the deck level with the ramps whatever the state of the tide. Thanks to Raymond Okonski for the above information.
