This is one of four Catholic churches within a couple of miles of each other and is within the parish of Kilclief. There was a Mass House reported on the site in 1731 built of mud packed with stone and thatched with reeds. This was replaced by a stone building in 1743 which in 1854 was itself replaced by a bigger chapel. Externally, the building has the plainess of Protesant Non-conformist chapel.
