In early 2012, a local newspaper had reported that the ambulance station would close at the end of March (2012), because Leicestershire County Council had decided to sell the building, which the ambulance service rented, together with vacant office buildings on the site. East Midlands Ambulance Service was seeking a new base in Melton.
