Built as council housing in the 1950s, some now privately owned. One of many streets in this area that are named after scientists, this is one is named after Sir Marcus (Mark) Oliphant (1901–2000). He was an Australian physicist who had a major role in the first experimental demonstration of nuclear fusion, and also the development of nuclear weapons.
