The subject is as in Image, but viewed from the other side. The road is Image, and the present picture was taken from beside the start of Image The cut-off to the left, before the bridge, is for access to Inkerman Bowling Club, whose name serves as a reminder that this area was once the small settlement of Inkerman. The building that was its schoolhouse also survives nearby: see Image The settlement is named on the first-edition OS map (surveyed in 1858), and on subsequent maps, up to and including the edition that was surveyed in c.1939.
