Crossing the Great North Road to the south of the town, Before the creation of the modern dual carriageway A1, the road carried straight on beyond the bridge into the town There is a bench mark http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4117702 at the far end of the right hand abutment. The railway is the former Great Central Railway line between Chesterfield and Lincoln.
