On the old A38 Trunk Road, near its summit between Chudleigh Knighton and Ashburton. Before closure it was known as The Toby Jug. Much earlier, in 1905, it was The Jolly Sailor Inn. Nearby, a little higher up, is Telegraph Hill, the site of one of the Admiralty's telegraph stations, allowing communication between London and Devonport in the early nineteenth century.
