Once the Macclesfield Free Library, (1876), with the motto "In candore decus", meaning "Honour in sincerity", the motto of the Chadick family. The building was more recently Registrar Offices. The Chadwick Free Library, on Park Green, was presented to the corporation in 1876 by Mr D. Chadwick, M.P. for Macclesfield, and is a good stone building containing about 16,000 volumes. http://ukga.org/england/Cheshire/towns/Macclesfield.html
