Lake Burwain (Lower Foulridge Reservoir)

Foulridge Lower Reservoir, which is fed from Foulridge Upper Reservoir, is also known as Lake Burwain. It used by anglers and is also home to the Burwain Sailing Club. The two reservoirs were built in the 1800s, not to store drinking water but to feed the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. The northern end of the lower reservoir, seen here, was built almost directly over the Foulridge canal tunnel.
