Hammersmith Hospital was formerly the Military Orthopaedic Hospital, and later the Special Surgical Hospital. For its full history see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hammersmith_Hospital Much of the modern hospital consists of rather undistinguished modern but this central block, seen across Du Cane Road, forms the main entrance and is more attractive.
