There is a long history of milling on this site but the current corn mill dates from the mid-19th century with a 5 metre overshot wheel built in 1888 by Luxtons of Hatherleigh. The mill operated until 1956 and although now converted to a dwelling the wheel has been restored and can allegedly turn. Disused buildings opposite were used for producing vitriol and fertiliser from bone meal.
