The house in the foreground is known as Big Tree House. The small white building just to the left of the centre of this image once housed the village blacksmith's shop. It served from 1999 to 2009 as a second-hand and antiquarian bookshop trading as Peakirk Books; the business still trades under this name online but has since relocated to the North Norfolk coast. The large white building furthest from the camera was originally a public house known as The Railway Inn (being located close to the village's former railway station). The pub was opened in 1848 to cater for workers constructing the Lincolnshire Loop Line. The Railway Inn closed in 1957 and the building subsequently served as a post office until its closure in 1987 and is now a private residence.
