Opened in 1844 by the Cheltenham & Great Western Union Railway, later to become part of the Great Western Railway, on the line originally from Swindon. Later developments meant lines radiate out in 4 directions from this station. View south east towards the junction for three of them: Cheltenham Spa (north), Bristol (south west) and Swindon (south east). The station was largely rebuilt in 1977.
