The station was built originally by the Metropolitan Railway, as its inscription indicates: the diamond was the Metropolitan Railway's attempt to create a logo as recognisable as the Underground roundel. In the foreground, the red buildings of Hyde Park Mansions which take up both sides of Cabbell Street.
