This bridge was built to carry the Guildford to Horsham Railway over a farm track connecting Swains Farm to the fields south of the embankment. It became doubly obsolete as the railway was dismantled and the farm track no longer used with the fields south of the line having been sold off. Now the Downs Link runs over the bridge.
