A frequent sight in summer. Some people speak of the Birmingham navy, though undoubtedly there are boat-owners in Teignmouth itself, Newton Abbot and the surrounding area, who descend to the water. First Avenue, on the left, heads north alongside the Bitton Brook, still partly an open watercourse. First, Second, Third and Fourth Avenues first appear on a map of 1933-6.
