Borage (Borago officinalis), also known as a starflower, is an annual herb native to the Mediterranean region. Its leaves are edible and the plant is grown in gardens for that purpose in some parts of Europe > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4055126. More farmers are required to grow what is described as being one of the most profitable spring crops in 2014. There is a growing demand for the special oil produced by the plant and for this reason the company behind the crop wants to increase its cropping area by 30% next spring. The oil produced by the plant is high in gamma-linolenic acid, an omega 6 fatty acid used in dietary supplements and in ointments to treat skin disorders such as eczema, rosacea and cradle cap. It is also being developed as a non-dairy creamer.
