Whitby Station track re-instated

Image: © Christopher Hall Taken: 1 Jul 2014

In the years after Image was taken in 1983, Whitby Station was reduced to a single track and operational platform as shown in Image of 1998. Tracks and other infrastructure were removed and there was no run round facility. With the increase in use by scheduled steam hauled trains off the North York York Moors railway a need has arisen for better infrastructure. Network Rail and NYMR are funding a new platform and new track, including provision for running a locomotive around a train. Work is currently in progress.
