This farm has some historic association with the Covenanters' uprisings of the 17th Century. James Harkness of Locherben was leader of a band of Covenanters who rescued some Covenanters from royal troops in the Pass of Enterkin while being escorted to Edinburgh for trial in 1684. Thomas Harkness, brother of James, was subsequently executed in the Grassmarket of Edinburgh in 1685 for his involvement.
