Looking along the line towards Charing

The line from Otford to Maidstone East was opened on 1st June 1874 by the London, Chatham & Dover Railway. On 1st July 1884 this was extended from Maidstone East to Ashford with intermediate stations opening at Bearsted, Hollingbourne, Harrietsham, Lenham and Charing on the same day. This view is where the line passes under the A20 (Maidstone Road) and looks towards Charing and Maidstone East. Newcourt Wood is in the background.
