Unveiled in June 2014, the statue commemorates the work of Sir Archibald McIndoe. The famous Guinea Pig Club was formed from patients of Archibald McIndoe, who underwent reconstructive plastic surgery during World War II; generally after receiving burn injuries in aircraft. The renowned British sculptor, Martin Jennings, was commissioned to design and make the Sir Archibald McIndoe Memorial, with stands in front of Sackville College.
