Silverton: Fore Street

The old Tiverton-Exeter road ran down Fore Street until 1765 when a new turnpike linked Tiverton and Silverton via the Exe valley, Bickleigh Bridge and Jenny’s Portion, rejoining the old route here. From 1819 Silverton was bypassed altogether by a new Tiverton-Exeter road through Netherexe, Rewe and Stoke Canon Woods. Looking east in the afternoon light
