The reason for the presence of vintage buses and sales stands was that this was the Stockwell Garage Open Day on which the public were admitted to view the facilities provided by the garage. Its famous concrete vaulting seen here enabled the garage to represent the largest unsupported area (392 x 194 feet) under one roof in Europe at the time of its opening in 1952.
