OS bench mark on Kempsey Church

This bench mark was established in 1844 during the First primary levelling of England & Wales, and was levelled with a height of 60.8050 feet [18.5334 metres] above mean sea level (Liverpool datum). It was included on the Manchester to Gloucester (Branch Levelling [from Callow End] to Kempsey Church) levelling line. The surveyor's description was "Bolt in buttress at North-west corner of Kempsey Church Tower ; 5.25 ft. above surface." (Public Abstract p.39)
