At the junction of Cranbourne Street and Albany Street, marble statue of Bucheet, River Horse (hippopotamus), installed 2005, as part of the zoological trail in the neighbourhood, and also marking the entrance to the city's first Continental-style Home Zone, favouring the pedestrian and cyclist over the car. Bucheet was brought to Europe from the White Nile in April 1858; for a few weeks in 1860, he was on deposit at Kingston upon Hull's Zoological Gardens (1840-62). http://eng.hrosi.org/?id=svet_zvire&zvire=6 Peel Street and Hutt Street, immediately east of Albany Street, were laid out on the site of the Gardens.
