From the Wessex Ridgeway as shown in Image], looking to the right. Stoke Water House, in Image, was built in 1838 as the Beaminster Union Workhouse. "The workhouse design was a modified, somewhat "squashed", form of the popular hexagonal "Y" plan — somewhat resembling an anchor in appearance" http://www.workhouses.org.uk/Beaminster/ . The building became an old people's home, and since 1974 has been flats. The wood next to it is still named Workhouse Wood. Beyond is Knowle Farm.
