Opened in 1857 by the Dundee & Arbroath Railway, this terminus station replaced the earlier Trades Lane station. The railway company was later jointly owned by the North British and Caledonian Railway companies. The station closed in 1959. Site view north east across the road to what was the forecourt, dominated by the glazed arched end of the train-shed, roughly where the modern building now stands. The current main line emerges from a short tunnel immediately behind this building.
