The Scott Park opened in 1939 following the demise of New Gala House which had replaced Old Gala House as the home of the Scott family, the ancient Lairds of Gala. Though the new house was demolished and was eventually replaced on the site by Galashiels Academy, the old house still exists in Scott Crescent and serves now as a museum, gallery and coffee shop. The old house is surrounded by the most beautiful and atmospheric gardens.
