Elegant buildings on the front at Parkgate. During the 18th century, Parkgate was an important embarkation port for Ireland. As the upper Dee estuary became progressively silted up, it was abandoned as a port, but continued to flourish as a seaside resort. Nowadays, flanked by a 2 km broad saltmarsh, it serves neither function.
