Bedminster's East Street has been the main shopping street for many generations. However, the closure of the old Wills tobacco factory in the 1970s brought a sharp decline in the area's fortunes. In order to address this downturn, Mary Portas was engaged to bring some fresh impetus; along with the Upfest project, it was decided to inject £100,000 into an arts trail. Several insects (grubs, beetles, larvae and the like) were decorated by local artists and scattered on the walls of the shops. This one, however, is by far the largest and consequently is firmly grounded outside a (now closed) takeaway. Perhaps there might have been a better advert here?
