The Princess Street frontage gives little impression of the size of the premises, which extend for about 30 metres (c100 ft) away from the street. Various sources state that this is the oldest surviving pub in Shrewsbury, dating from c1475. The surviving visible structure is mostly later 16th century. Grade II* listed in 1953.
