James Gibson's career included being a sailor, distiller, wine merchant, miller, and Master of the Worshipful Company of Ironmongers. The inscription reads: "Within this Tomb lyes the Remains of James Gibson Esq and family Late Merchant and citizen of London To whose Memory this Tomb is Erected 1777" Also a plaque reads: "This mausoleum, built in 1777 is the family tomb of the London Wine Merchant, James Gibson (c1706-1776), master of the ironmongers company. In accordance with the will of the last of the Gibson family, Miss Mary Gibson (c1730-1793), the tomb is subject to an annual inspection on August 12th." http://www.mmtrust.org.uk/mausolea/view/325/Gibson_Mausoleum
