The small, detached building in the yard is the Smithy. It housed a hearth on the ground floor and had lofts, for drying the part-finished bobbins, above. There was no blacksmith on the payroll at Stott Park. The bobbin turners used this building for maintaining their own tools and it is possible that a local blacksmith may have used the forge for larger tasks when needed by the mill manager.
