A farmer on a quad bike and his two sheepdogs were moving this flock along the main street in Gamblesby village - we were told this happens frequently. The Anglican Church of St John, built in 1868, was closed for worship in 2002 http://www.cumbriacountyhistory.org.uk/township/gamblesby . Its conversion to a house in 2010 was featured on the Channel 4 TV show 'Restoration Man', it is currently a holiday rental home http://www.oldstjohnschurch.co.uk/ . The church itself is located in the OS gridsquare directly west - see Image (note original spire).
