Lifesize representations of war poet Wilfred Owen, Shrewsbury's town crier Martin Wood, and Sabrina, goddess of the River Severn, are located between Smithfield Road and the River Severn. The subjects for the two-dimensional steel figures were chosen by the public in an online vote on the Shropshire Star website which attracted over 30,000 votes, and a vote in Shrewsbury's primary schools. These three figures are part of the Sustrans Portrait Bench art project which will see 250 figures of local heroes installed in more than 80 locations in the UK.
