The bear sculptures were created by former Head of Fine Art at Newport College of Art, Tony Stevens, having entered a Welsh Arts Council Competition in about 1970. It was based on his daughter's (Kate, a pupil at the school) favourite story at the time: Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Modelled in clay and cast in fibreglass, Daddy Bear is 6 foot tall, Mummy Bear 5 and Baby Bear 4.
