The Porch House claims to be England's oldest inn, dating back to 947AD. It was previously known as the Royalist and Eagle & Child. Pub operator Brakespeare acquired the business in July 2012 and, following a major refurbishment, reopened it as The Porch House in September 2013. After The Bull in Henley-on-Thames, it is Brakespeare's second directly managed site.
