The lowest level in this area of former sand pits. The sloping land behind the security fencing is also part of Gilbert's Pit (a.k.a. Charlton Sand Pit) but the pit's steep slopes have probably been enclosed for health and safety reasons and to protect it as a designated SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) of great interest to geologists?
