The far side of this Grade I-listed, Palladian-style summer house or orangery overlooks Charlton Road and the entrance to the main street through it. (As it passes through the village the B210 road is known as "The Village"). The summer house was built c.1630 and it has been suggested that Charlton House's owners would have used the upper part of it for dining and entertaining during the warmer months of the year. In 1938 it was converted into a public lavatory. It is currently closed to the public.
