There used to be a pedestrian level crossing at the end of the station yard, with gates mechanically locked by the signals on either side. The boardwalk across the rails is still maintained, but the gates are now permanently closed. The small path in the foreground leads from the up side entrance to the platform, and was previously used by passengers leaving bikes in the (now closed) bike yard.
