The Treadwheel Crane, Harwich Green

The Treadwheel Crane was used at the Naval Yard from 1667 to 1927. It was moved to its present site in about 1932. The crane was worked by men walking in the interior of the two wheel.s http://www.harwich-society.co.uk/old/tread_wheel.htm In the background, to its right, is the tower of St Nicholas’ church, a grade II listed building that was consecrated in 1822 http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-366499-church-of-st-nicholas-harwich-essex and to its left the High Lighthouse, a grade II listed building dating from 1818.
