Waterfowl on and near Backwell Lake

Backwell Lake was constructed in the 1970s as a balancing pond to store surface water running off from Nailsea housing estates to reduce the risk of flooding during periods of high rainfall. The lake has become an important wildlife habitat, now designated a local nature reserve and wildlife site.
