Grade II* Listed merchant's house with a reputed date of 1578 for John Rashleigh but probably of 15th century origins as a squire’s townhouse extended in the 17th and 19th centuries. It is said that it was the local Roundhead HQ during the civil war. Pevsner tells us 'This is a most complicated building with some very important surviving features'. St Austell Brewery tell us that it is also known as ‘The Old Lady of Fowey'. Directory entries include, 1830-1844 Elizabeth Borlase, 1852-1856 John Sparnall, 1873 Lewis James Nurse, 1883-1889 Joseph Mitchell Williams (& hair dresser), 1893 Walter Hy Pulman listed under Ye Olde Ship Hotel, 1897-1906 Miss Nellie Purches and 1914 Paul Arrand.
