Opened in 1845 by the Eastern Counties Railway on what is now the line from London Liverpool Street to Cambridge. From 1913 to 1952, this was the junction station for the branch line to Thaxted. View north west towards Newport (Essex) and Cambridge. The northbound platform can be seen in the distance, beyond the level crossing. This platform used to have a second edge to the right, roughly where the grass now is, for the Thaxted branch which used to curve away sharply to the right.
