The industrial premises in this area are gradually being replaced by students' flats for the university. The factory on the right with the strange chimneys was either the “Globe Works or the “Lead Works” on the 1907 map. Chris. Allen has informed me that chimneys are cupola furnaces for melting metal, usually cast iron but could be aluminium or similar, and were therefore part of a foundry.
